Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) are important drivers of growth in economies across Sub Saharan Africa, accounting for up to 90% of all businesses in these markets. They are also the biggest job creators particularly in areas that have high levels of unemployment and poverty. We invest in SMEs that have high levels of job creation and that contribute to the communities in which they work.
SMEs are often unable to obtain funds from traditional lending institutions due to lack of track record and security. Our team of analysts works hard to understand the inner workings of a business in order to realise its longevity. We see security as more than just assets and place a large emphasis on the ability of the businesses human capital to make the business work.
We believe that adding to the development and unlocking capital for SMEs is a crucial step towards the eradication of poverty. Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) regulation developed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has played a role in SME development through the unlocking of capital specifically ear-marked for SMEs. Our Enterprise Development product offering provides a turnkey solution for corporates in South Africa looking to invest their BEE ED allocation.
